Simply because my leg feels no better, I’m looking for alternatives, just in case I am unable to race Indy Monumental in the shape I need to be to hit my target.
Back at the beginning of the year, before I got injured during Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon training, I paid for the Rock ‘n’ Roll tour pass - which meant that I was able to enter any RNR event in 2013. Due to the length of my injury, then the length of Indy Marathon training that I started straight afterwards, I was unable to run any of those races.
Well, one of the races I entered was my old friend the Vegas marathon, which takes place on November 17th. If this injury continues past this weekend, I’m going to have to be realistic and accept that I may not be able to run Indy and hit my target time, so Las Vegas may be my saviour, giving me an extra 2 weeks to prepare.
I don’t want to, because I would be on my own, haven’t booked a hotel or a flight, but it’s there as my safety net. It lowers my anxiety.
It’s my contingency plan; I’m not letting four months of training go to waste.
